PPA 2009 Annual Scientific Conference

The Philippine Population Association, the organization of demographers and population specialists in the country, is holding its Annual Scientific Conference with the theme "Population Movements: Global-Local Intersections" on 6 February 2009 at Hotel Supreme, Baguio City.

This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Peter Xenos, Adjunct Professor at the University of Hawaii. Two concurrent sessions on "International Labor Migration" and "Indigenous Peoples and Local Movements" will be held in the afternoon. Poster presentations will also be held.

Two pre-conference training/workshops are scheduled in the afternoon of 5 February 2009: (1) Demographic Measures with Computer Application and (2) Technical Writing 101. We encourage early registration. Please refer to the attached for the program, arrangements and registration fees for the conference and training/workshops.

In addition, the Philippine Population Review, Volume 7 will be launched during the conference.

Extension Deadline

In view of requests for extension of deadline for submission of abstracts to the PPA Scientific Meeting in February to be held in Hotel Supreme, Baguio City, we are extending the deadline for submission of abstracts for possible presentation in the Meeting to 9 January 2009. Accepted papers/posters will be notified by 16 January 2009.

THEME: Population Movements: Global-Local Intersections

The Philippine Population Association will hold its 2009 Annual Scientific Conference with the theme Population Movements: Global-Local Intersections.

Population movements refer to geographic movements of people within national boundaries and across international borders. The conference will explore trends, patterns, differentials, determinants and consequences of population movements including but not limited to health, urbanization, development, and population structure.

We encourage submission of abstracts of no more than 500 words for evaluation by the Scientific Conference Committee for possible oral or poster presentation. Papers submitted for oral presentation should not have been published or presented elsewhere. We also encourage proposals for panels with a maximum of three papers per panel.

Non-PPA members are also invited to submit abstracts and panel proposals.
