Flieger, a demographer trained at the University of Chicago and one of the pioneering demographers in the Philippines, was a founding member and past president of the Philippine Population Association. This session will include: (1) a brief history of his works, including the establishment of the University of San Carlos Office of Population Studies Foundation, Inc. (OPS) in Cebu as the university’s response to the government’s call for more academic involvement in national development through population and related research; (2) descriptions, highlights of findings, and substantive and methodological contributions of the longitudinal studies conducted by OPS under the leadership of Fr. Not all participants in the workshop are members of PPA, but all were given invitations or application forms for PPA membership. Alice joined the PPA during the last General Assembly meeting in Manila. She is involved in NGO work and is sometimes an affiliate of the Office of the Population Studies (OPS) . The secretary, Regina Salvador, is a new member from POPCOM Region 7 (she's the lady in red-striped blouse<br />and polka-dot skirt).
